Framework
S: Situation
Understand the current state. Ask few of these.
P: Problem
Find difficulties and dissatisfaction.
I: Implication
Explore the cost and spread of the problem.
N: Need-Payoff
Let the buyer state the value of a fix.
Use it when
- The purchase requires a business case.
- The buyer does not feel urgency yet.
- You must build value before price.
Watch out for
- Too many situation questions. Research first.
- Implication questions that feel like an interrogation.
- Pitching before need is clear.
Questions
- How do you handle that today?
- What breaks when volume increases?
- What does that delay cost per month?
- If that were solved, what would change for your team?
Example
A rep asks three implication questions about manual reporting. The buyer calculates 20 hours per week of lost analyst time and asks for a proposal.
